School Board Meetings, Policies and Highlights

The next regular school board meeting is scheduled for Monday, November 2, 2020 at 6:00 p.m. via Zoom.

Governor Jay Inslee has extended Proclamation 20-28 until November 9, 2020. It may be extended again. Public participation in Regular Board Meetings is virtual via Zoom until further notice*. 
Meeting access information is posted below no later than 24 hours prior to regular board meetings.

The link to pre-register for the 11-2-2020 Regular Board Zoom meeting will be posted on this page by Friday, October 30.

After registering, you will see the confirmation screen. Select Add to Calendar and choose Outlook from the dropdown menu. A meeting notice will download. Drag it to your calendar. The meeting notice will contain the complete Zoom info with meeting number, link and password.

*Why can't the school board hold in-person meetings right now?  Pierce County is still in Phase 2, therefore the limitations for indoor organized events preclude school boards from conducting a traditional in-person meeting because the restrictions prevent community members from attending the public meeting. Even if the governor's OPMA waiver expires for Washington state, the Puyallup School District cannot hold in-person board meetings until Pierce County cases decrease significantly to allow for gatherings of more than 10 people. Members of the public wishing to speak during public comment at the assigned time during a virtual regular board meeting may email their name and the topic they wish to address to no later than 30 minutes prior to the meeting start time. Please write "Public Comment" as the subject of your email. It is not necessary to include your comments in advance. The board president will call on you during the public comment portion of the agenda.

Please visit BoardDocs to view meeting agendas, policies and meeting minutes. Meeting agendas are published the Friday prior to each regular board meeting. Meeting minutes are visible to the public once approved by the board at their next regular board meeting.

The Board generally meets twice each month on the first Monday and the third Monday of the month.  Due to school breaks, there is only one meeting in the months of April, July and December. Please click on the schedule link above for the specific dates.

Public Comments (applicable once meetings are allowed for large gatherings)

The Puyallup School Board welcomes the public to its regular meetings. If you wish to address the school board, please fill out a blue Comment Card which is located on the sign-in table and give it to the board president or any administrator. Your name will be called by the board president. Public comments are limited to three minutes each.  Please see the Puyallup School Board brochure for guidelines.

Board Policies

School board policies are statements that set forth the purposes and prescribe in general terms the organization and program of the district. They provide general, ongoing guidance and direction to the district.

Policies, Regulations, and Forms

Each policy includes cross references, legal references, and the date when the policy was adopted. If applicable, acceptance dates for revisions are also included.

Administrative regulations are developed as necessary to ensure the consistent implementation of policies adopted by the Board. Regulations can include specific procedures and other such details. A regulation number is the same as the associated policy number, with an "R" suffix.

Some policies are associated with forms. A form number is the same as the associated policy number, with an "F" suffix.

Policy Series

The policies are categorized into the six following areas:

  • 1000 — Board of Directors. Policies pertaining to Puyallup School Board meetings, board member elections and governance.
  • 2000 — Instruction. Policies pertaining to student learning programs, school organization, and instructional requirements.
  • 3000 — Students. Policies pertaining to admission and attendance, rights and responsibilities, and student activities.
  • 4000 — Community Relations. Policies pertaining to communications with the public, public participation in schools, public access to staff and students, and relations with other agencies.
  • 5000 — Personnel. Policies pertaining to recruitment, hiring, employment, compensation, leaves, and benefits.
  • 6000 — Management Support. Policies pertaining to financial planning, revenues, purchasing, risk management, transportation, food service, school property, and capital projects.
