Breakfast and Lunch Program During School Closures

The student lunch and breakfast meal program will change to a Monday only pick up beginning April 6. Students will receive a five-day meal pack containing breakfasts and lunches.

Meals will still be available for pick up April 1-3. The change begins on Monday, April 6.

New lunch/breakfastThe five-day packs will be available on Monday, April 6, 13, and 20. Location and times remain the same at all elementary schools from 11 a.m. – 12 noon.

More service Mondays may be added if the school closures extend beyond April 24.

The district estimates 50,000 meals will be provided on Mondays. The meals are handed out curbside for drive thru Grab & Go, or students may walk-up to pick them up. Procedures are in place for social distancing while meals are handed out.

The five-day meal packs contain nonperishable items and a bag of frozen entrees that can be heated up in the oven or microwave. Lunch items include Heat and Eat entrees, assorted fruits, fruit or veggie cup, and milk. Breakfasts include cereal or breakfast bar, fruit or juice, and milk.

The transition to once-a-week pickup is necessary for sustainability. It saves parents the time and expense of driving to school every day and is a great help to dedicated food service staff. They have been working hard to keep up with the labor-intensive daily preparation and delivery of meals five days a week.
