» Question: What is Kindergarten Academy? 

Answer: Kindergarten Academy is:

  • • A Puyallup School District 20 week early entrance full-day kindergarten program
  • • Designed for children who turn five after August 31st  
  • • Focused to support children who have not had a formal preschool or other pre-kindergarten experience

When will Kindergarten Academy start? 

Answer: Kindergarten Academy will start in late January 2020 and conclude in June 2020

How does my child get registered for Kindergarten Academy? 

Answer: Families interested in Kindergarten Academy will need to schedule a 30-minute meeting with Puyallup School District personnel at the Educational Service Center located at 302 2nd Street SE, Puyallup  98732.   During these meetings, Puyallup School District personnel will administer assessments that will be used to determine each child’s candidacy for the Kindergarten Academy program.   The following Kindergarten Academy assessment days have been scheduled:

  •  • Friday, October 18, 2019
  •  • Friday, November 1, 2019
  •  • Friday, November 15, 2019
  •  • Friday, December 6, 2019
  •  • Tuesday, December 17, 2019

  When will families know if their child qualifies for Kindergarten Academy?

Answer: Families will be notified if their child qualifies for Kindergarten Academy on or before December 20, 2019.

Answer: Yes, Kindergarten Academy is scheduled Monday - Friday.

: What is the start and end time for Kindergarten Academy?

Answer: The start and end times for Kindergarten Academy are approximately 9:00AM - 3:30PM.  These times are tentative and subject to change based on the school location that Kindergarten Academy is housed.  The important thing for families to know is that Kindergarten Academy will follow the bell schedule as the school(s) that house the program.

What elementary schools will house Kindergarten Academy?

Answer: Kindergarten Academy locations will be determined and shared with the community in late September.  The goal is to have two Kindergarten Academy classrooms in each regional school community.

Answer: No, there are no tuition costs associated with Kindergarten Academy.


» Question: Will the Puyallup School District provide transportation to and from Kindergarten Academy?

Answer: Yes, the Puyallup School District will provide transportation to and from Kindergarten Academy.

» Question: Does my child need to live within the Puyallup School District attendance area in order to qualify for Kindergarten Academy?

Answer: Yes, your child must live within the Puyallup School District attendance area in order to qualify for Kindergarten Academy. 

» Question: What type of assessments will be administered to my child during the 30-minute Kindergarten Academy assessment meeting this fall?

Answer: There is no preparation needed prior to your child’s scheduled 30-minute Kindergarten Academy assessment meeting.  During the meeting, your child will be assessed on letter names/sounds, counting, basic shape identification, etc.  It’s important to remember, that the number one determination on whether or not a child qualifies for Kindergarten Academy is whether or not they have had a formal preschool or other pre-kindergarten educational experience.  Kindergarten Academy is designed for children who have not had a formal preschool or other pre-kindergarten educational experience.
